Students Visit Thomas Jefferson's Home - Monticello
Mr. Harris and Mrs. Slater's 11th grade United States History students enjoyed a trip to Thomas Jefferson's magnificent home, Monticello! Some students took a driving tour of the University of Virginia and also had the opportunity to enjoy the early fall colors of the Charlottesville, Virginia area. Students exclaimed that they gained much "unexpected knowledge" from this field trip. After the tour one student declared, "I could feel the essence of Thomas Jefferson flow through me!"
Essex High School Student Makes National News!
Dondre Harris is a senior at Essex High School. He just happens to be a 7-foot tall, 380-pound defensive lineman and the nation's tallest! MaxPreps, ESPN, our local WTVR Channel 6 News Station, USA Today and just about every other newspaper has featured Dondre Harris in their news headlines. Stephen Spiewak from MaxPreps wrote that the tallest player in the 2014 NFL Draft was defensive tackle Daniel McCullers who plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He's only 6-7 and weighs 360 pounds! Way to go Dondre! Have a great 2014-2015 football season!
Mr. Nicholas King's Advanced English

Mr. Loveless' Advanced Band Class
Students in Mr. Loveless' Advanced Band Class are learning and executing fundamentals of instrumental rehearsal and performance in group and individual settings. Students practice at home and complete a log that is signed by their parents. They also have the opportunity to expand their musical knowledge each quarter by choosing a genre of music they are not familiar with and respond to that experience in writing.
Mr. Nicholson's Math Class
Students in Mr. Nicholson's Algebra Class learned about math with a deck of cards. He showed the students a magic trick and as students gathered around, he simulated the magic trick. Then he used the dry erase board to demonstrate that in a card deck there are 52 cards and to predict which three cards were going to be last - it required counting and a process of elimination.
Technology Integration Package
Essex County Public Schools has installed a "Technology Integration Package" (TIP) into every math class at Essex Intermediate School and Essex High School. This package consists of a laptop, tablet, LCD projector, six-foot projection screen, and a locked cabinet to store the equipment. Math teachers can utilize technology and allow students to participate by using the tablet which is projected onto the screen. We are teaching our students to be productive in the 21st Century by integrating this new technology to achieve our district goal.
