Dean of Students

My name is Jennifer Peters, and I am eager and excited to begin my administrative career at Essex High School as the Dean of Students. I have heard amazing things about the Essex community and look forward to creating relationships with students, staff, and parents.

I began my career in education with Henrico County Public Schools as a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher, teaching Teachers for Tomorrow, Child Development, and Independent Living. In addition to teaching, I was the advisor for Educators Rising and FCCLA as well as leading the new teacher mentoring program. I became an administrative aide in 2020, leading the transportation team as well as supporting administration with discipline, scheduling, and instruction.

I received my bachelor’s degree in Child Development from Virginia Tech in 1999. In May 2021, I received my master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Longwood University. I have three children and enjoy spending time with them as well as being outdoors, reading, and traveling.

My Why: I believe that growing the next generation to be productive citizens of our communities requires strong relationships with adults in their lives. Students thrive in an environment where they are loved, supported, and have the freedom to be themselves while learning and growing.
